Chitrana - Phase 1

Chitrana project is ongoing resource generation project begun in 2004. The First Phase ends in December 2006. It has been designed:
  1. To create an original set of photographs that can be used in other projects of Dhwani (E.g. Poorana and Aarambha) and also in Dhwani's future books and teaching resources
  2. To create and publish richly illustrated resource/reference books (using these photographs) for primary and high schoolteachers of history in Kannada-medium schools
In this project, we travel to various cultural and historical places and capture them on lens. We also explore for ourselves these sites and go through a process of learning and understanding. So far, Dhwani has covered a large area of Karnataka and has a repository of thousands of photographs. Thus, apart from generating resources that can be used in other Dhwani efforts, this project is also a learning ground for Dhwani Resource Persons. It is our idea that just as children need to experience to learn, we too need to constantly experience and learn in the field. Chitrana keeps us live and fresh and inspires our creative efforts in other projects.

Chitrana Phase 1 covers Karnataka. We intend to have Phases 2 and 3 in the future. Phase 2 will cover remaining parts of South India. Phase 3 will cover North India.
